Uralkali, Belaruskali to create joint venture for global sales

In order to sell fertilisers worldwide, Russia''s Uralkali and Belarus'' Belaruskali plan to establish a joint venture Soyuzkali, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Guryanov said on Thursday (June 14).

"We plan to have a 50% share for each company in the new venture given their mutual interests. We wouldn''t like to have any conflicts regarding control," Guryanov said.

Belarusian authorities have proposed locating Soyuzkali''s headquarters in the Belarusian capital Minsk.

Russian and Belarusian potash fertilisers are now exported by the Belorusskaya-Rossiyskaya Kompaniya (BRK), also jointly owned by Belaruskali and Uralkali.

"We are not talking about replacing BRK. We are talking about a new form of cooperation that would take into account BRK''s interests. BRK is working quite efficiency and Soyuzkali is the next step in our cooperation with Belaruskali," Guryanov said.

Belarus''s First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko has said that Soyuzkali is to be established by the end of the year.
